Video Games — Have Some Fun!
Video games have long-time been criticized for many reasons. And well, some of them I can understand, because I don’t like many, myself. But, one of the things I find to be very interesting is the way video games can be helpful to enhance, build and sharpen skills in a person.
Video Games — What?
I can remember when my son was in elementary school and the moms would gather around and talk as they waited for the bell ring. We would engage in various topics of conversations, and the ”v” word would come into mention. They would talk about games and how they didn’t understand why anyone would want to play a video game. I would smile and say, “I love to play video games.”
Funny Looks
Well, when I said that, they gave me some very interesting looks, and they would smile and say, “Really?” So, I would ask them, “Have you ever played games like Super Mario with Yoshi?” They would giggle a bit and say no.
Stereotyping is a funny thing and can be done with anything or situation. For some reason, these believed video games would induce children to be lazy, not learning a thing. Quite the contrary, playing video games is just the opposite!
Fun and Exercise
Video games stimulate the brain as it enables creativity, while enhancing the hand and eye coordination and reflexes. When playing video games, you don’t just sit there without thought. As a matter of fact, you have to think, as well as react quickly, or you might get creamed. However, the more you play, the quicker your reflexes will become, as well as your reaction.
Peripheral Vision is Improved
Playing a video game can train the eye to see things outside of the peripheral vision, which is when something is outside of the range of vision. I am amazed at the ability some people have when it comes to seeing what most do not see. I know many like this, and I have seen their skills develop and/or increase after playing video games for a short period of time.
Participation
Playing video games can not only be beneficial and good for you, but it is an extremely fun way to exercise your mind and body. Think of the Wii with the Wii mote and Nunchuck. I believe they were designed to help those whom have never played video games before to see them in a whole new light.
Playing the Wii will help to give them exercise as they participate. This is something the whole family could enjoy and do together.
While You Wait
There are businesses, medical clinics and hospitals that have the Nintendo Wii console sitting in their waiting areas to help occupy the person who is having to wait. By the time the person is through, he or she is more relaxed and has a whole new train of thought. Laughter is as good as medicine is, so why not use video games to help calm and ease the patients or customers.
Don’t just take my word for it. Play a video game, and try it for yourself. You will enjoy and see that video games are definitely not only good for you, but are loaded with so much fun. Once you get started playing video games, you will not want to stop and will be hooked from that moment on. Then you, too, will become a gamer!
